For the body does not consist of one member but of many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, yet one body...Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.
1 Corinthians 12
The Bible does not specifically instruct churches to keep an official membership, which has led some to conclude that membership is extra-biblical. However, the Bible does command the church to remove certain individuals from their membership. So since we are commanded to remove people from membership, this leads us to believe that there must have been a membership in existence.
Membership at Emmaus Road is offered freely to all who are trusting in Jesus Christ as the only hope for the forgiveness of sin and power over sin. To those who abide in him by obedience to his word, faith in his person and work, who hate sin and love the truth and have been baptized by immersion in water symbolizing unity with Christ and thereby becoming publically recognized as a member of his body, the church. If you wish to join our local body in membership, please talk with one of our elders before or after service or contact Pastor Louis directly:
