We know that visiting a new church can sometimes bring on feelings of uncertainty, and for some, outright fear. So if you're new to Emmaus Road, we'd like to make your visit a little easier. Below are a few points that should make you well prepared to come in from the weary road of church shopping and make yourself at home with us.
WELCOME TO EMMAUS ROAD
We worship at Faith Lutheran Church in Sugar Land. The campus is busy and has three buildings. We meet in the main sanctuary which is the building closest to Brooks Street.
You will want to grab a hymnal, a bulletin and a Bible, if needed, from the table in the foyer before worship begins.
The first thing that you might notice is that we do not send our children out to a nursery or Sunday School classes. This is because we believe it is important for children to worship with their parents and for parents to teach their children how to sit through a worship service. (You can read more about why we do this here.)
Our congregation is not bothered by cooing babies. However, we also understand that children have a sinful nature and at times display it. If this happens, you are welcome to remove them from the sanctuary and correct them as necessary. If needed, there is a cry room to the left of the sanctuary.
After the sermon, there is a time set aside for reflection, confession of sin, prayer and thanksgiving. This usually lasts for about five to ten minutes.
Following the reflection and prayer time, we close with a benediction and then we conclude with a time of eating and fellowship. We are delighted to have our guests join us for this fellowship meal. It's a good opportunity to ask questions about the church and get to know our body. It is during our fellowship meal that we partake of the Lord's Supper. If you are a born again member of an Evangelical church and not under discipline by a church, you are welcome to partake with us. The Lord's supper is followed by the singing of the doxology and continued fellowship.
